Two Skies

Two Skies has an eventful history. At eighteen Adam McIntosh left Edinburgh to travel the world as a kilt-wearing didgeridoo player. After staying with the native Mi’kmaq Indians in Nova Scotia he was given the name “ Two Skies” and that then became the name of his future enterprise.

The enterprise itself started after being given some opal offcuts in Australia (in return for a few beers) from a lucky miner who had just hit a major seam. After many other adventures (including running from gangsters in the Dominican Republic and living with a witchdoctor in South Africa) Adam returned from his travels and set up shop – on a blanket in Edinburgh’s High Street! With no trader’s licence he was frequently moved on by the police and had to push his wheelbarrow of precious goods away. Eventually the humble blanket gave away to a market stall and a reputation for selling uniquely designed goods derived from ethical and sustainable sources.

The origins at the farm were equally humble. Two Skies was one of Craigencalt’s early tenants and its offices started off in a small stable – with the horse in the other half.

A number of years later and Two Skies has morphed into a much larger operation. In 2015 it leased a shop on the Royal Mile and now sells to outlets across the UK and internationally. There are also three Etsy shops. Adam handles all jewellery designs while a team of silver smiths in Jaipur carries out the manufacturing.

The latest news is that Two Skies has branched out into using Scottish gold in its designs. It had avoided using gold previously for environmental and ethical reasons but has recently been sourcing gold collected by local gold panners on the West Coast. This is being converted into a range of new unique designs.
